Personal tutors

Personal tutors are teaching staff who also support and give information to students. Every teaching department has personal tutors, who meet students individually or in group sessions throughout the year.

The tutor’s role is to

  • help you keep track of your progress
  • be the first person you contact if you want help or advice
  • refer you to other sources of support if you have academic or personal concerns
  • support you with your learning and career development

If you're studying part time your personal tutor is likely to be the class teacher. If you're a part time student you won't usually have a regular meeting with your tutor but your tutor can help with general advice or refer you to other support services.
