Guidance and welfare

The Guidance and Welfare Service are here to support you during your time at The Manchester College.

There are a number of ways we can help you, including:

  • helping you choose the right course for you
  • help with welfare, benefits, debt and immigration status for study
  • help with finances, where to live, personal support and part-time work
  • advice on what to do after your course has finished, such as further study, training or jobs

To help you as much as possible, we offer:

  • booked appointments with specialist staff in areas like benefits, debt and immigration
  • drop-in sessions for brief questions
  • advice via email
  • group work on topics like careers, student finance, using careers resources and job hunting

All the information we give you is objective and in confidence. We’re accredited to the national ‘Matrix’ quality standard.

You can find us at all the main college campuses and we visit other college campuses regularly. You can get in touch with us via reception or the main office at your campus. We work in safe, friendly and welcoming settings.

We also have electronic and hard copy resources in the library resources centres (LRCs).

We ask you to give accurate and up-to-date information about yourself so that we can give you the best possible service. Everything you say is treated confidentially.

National Careers Service at The Manchester College

The National Careers Service helps adults get the advice they need on skills, careers, work and life choices. The Guidance and Welfare service at The Manchester College is a provider of the National Careers Service.

Any adult aged 19+ can use this free service.
