With the move of whole areas of BBC operation to the north and the launch of new commercial radio stations in the city, Manchester, more than ever, is an exciting city for broadcast employment opportunities. This course offers an educational foundation for a range of careers in the radio broadcast industry.
This course is delivered in partnership with Radio Regen, Manchester's only specialist radio training organisation. In 2008, Radio Regen, supported by the college, established a community radio station - North Manchester FM - at One Central Park to provide students with valuable hands-on experience.
This course is very practical and offers work experience within the radio industry (both community and commercial sectors), enabling students to develop the skills essential for a successful career in radio.

Students are assessed on essays, practical assignments, examinations, presentations, case studies, programme proposals, portfolios, a reflective journal, interview transcriptions and broadcast projects.
On successful completion of the course students may enter into careers in the fields of radio, journalism, podcasting, audio production and multimedia. Previous graduates have also successfully undertaken the BA (Honours) Professional Broadcast Techniques with the University of Salford.
Applicants are required to have a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/Extended Diploma with Merit, Pass, Pass or a BTEC Level 3 National Certificate/Extended Certificate with Merit, Merit in a media-related subject area, or an equivalent level 3 qualification with appropriate content. Minimum UCAS tariff points required: 160. In addition, applicants must be highly motivated and be able to work well as a member of a team as much of the work is practical and project-based. A commitment to excellent attendance is also required. Applicants must have a keen interest in the broadcast industries.
Mature applicants (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity may also apply.
