What's the New Media Design course about?

*Subject to validation*
Electronic media has entered a new era where design is becoming more televisual and content creation increasingly important. This working environment requires flexible and multi-skilled designers who can create moving-image and interactive products for contemporary media platforms, including web, TV, print, and computer games.

Within the working environment of the course students develop their own ideas through a number of different projects, establishing their own distinct creative identity. The programme teaches the multimedia skills demanded by industry of a creative digital designer. A strong design awareness is essential for the successful interactive designer as well as competency in many skill areas, including web design, motion graphics, digital imaging, short films and social media.

Working on a series of studio projects, students generate and develop creative ideas which are executed professionally using industry-standard software, such as Adobe's Creative Suite and Apple's Final Cut Studio.

There are many opportunities to produce work for particular target audiences through live briefs from external clients and organisations. There are opportunities to enter work into national design competitions, such as D&AD and YCN as part of the curriculum and students are also required to stage a final exhibition of their work.
