This programme has been designed to prepare students for work in contemporary musical theatre and its related industries. Students are offered many opportunities, to explore, develop and refine the skills necessary for a potential career in performance, including television, film, session work and cabaret.
Students are offered a selection of opportunities to individually explore the mechanics of each of the three key musical theatre disciplines (singing, acting and dance) and, as part of an ongoing creative process, their respective combinations.
All the creative work is underpinned by the systems of physical action as laid out by Stanislavski and developed by Uta Hagen and in this sense the course aims to produce actors who can sing and dance. The diversity and challenges of each year allow students to explore the full potential of their abilities within a creative and stimulating environment.

Students are assessed through a combination of practical work (80%) and written assessment (20%) - the course culminates in a 5000 word extended essay.
This programme trains actors for the professional theatre and its allied industries and also provides excellent opportunities for students to progress to postgraduate studies.
Applicants must have two A levels at grade C or above and a third qualification or a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/Extended Diploma with Merit, Merit, Merit or a BTEC Level 3 National Certificate/Extended Certificate with Distinction, Distinction in a performing arts related subject area, or an equivalent level 3 qualification with appropriate content. Minimum UCAS tariff points required: 240. The college invites students who meet the criteria to audition, which will then determine entry to the programme. Students with music theory Grade 5 will be at an advantage.
Where the student is a mature applicant, the college may choose to reduce the required UCAS tariff points if the applicant can demonstrate appropriate experience of their chosen specialism. However, this will be subject to the agreement of the head of department.
For overseas applicants or for those for whom English is a second language, a proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is essential. The college requires such students to demonstrate an IELTS score of 6.0. Entry to this pathway at levels 2 and 3 can only happen in exceptional circumstances, and given its intensive actor training, this programme is not a standard top-up route for foundation degree graduates.
