What's the Dance course about?

The HNC Dance course at The Arden offers highly practical and intensive technical training to expand, unleash and develop performance skills and create students who act as agents of change and development in the performing arts industry. Contemporary techniques are studied alongside a traditional classical ballet and commercial techniques of Jazz, Tap and Street Dance. Choreographic opportunity and skills are delivered to increase creative thinking and individual artistic signature.

The course runs over 3 days a week, (some evenings and additional times may be required at points in the year) to accommodate work commitments.

The Dance Curriculum at the Arden is designed to be diverse, practical and industry relevant to reflect careers within the Dance profession.

Areas of study include:

- Jazz
- Contemporary Dance
- Ballet

- Commercial dance
- Choreography
- Rehearsing, performing and touring
- Contextual studies
- Workshop delivery

Students will also gain skills in career preparations, CV building, agencies, audition technique and opportunities to perform in and around professional spaces within the thriving creative cultures of Greater Manchester, London and Europe.

Students will undertake formative and summative practical assessments in all skills areas and performance.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

Students will be equipped with technical and performance skills that can be applied to all fields of the dance industry, including, performance, choreography and teaching.

On completion of year one, students will have the skills to study for a second year in order to gain the full HND qualification. There are also progression opportunities on a range of BA Honours programmes at universities across the UK.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

Applicants should have completed A Levels or a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/Extended Diploma with Pass, Pass, Pass or a BTEC Level 3 National Certificate/Extended Certificate with Merit, Pass in a related subject area, or an equivalent level 3 qualification with appropriate content. Minimum UCAS tariff points required: 120. All applicants will be expected to have had previous dance training and some performance experience.

Mature applicants (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity may also apply.

All applicants will be interviewed and short listed applicants are invited for audition.
