This course provides individuals with a broad understanding of organisation structure, the business environment, and systems, analysis and design of database development, together with the underpinning theory of computer architecture and networks. It enables them to function effectively in the business world in the provision of IT systems for the support of the information requirements of organisations.
It is most suited to individuals who wish to relate their technical knowledge to a broad range of business issues from a general management perspective. With a focus on the commercial application of technology, it supports a wide range of career opportunities through the development of appropriate skills.
The course develops appropriate knowledge and skills in business and IT through an integrative teaching and learning strategy. The principles and techniques of management are also studied throughout the course and offer an opportunity to combine a business and technical education in an applied vocational context.
Particular emphasis is placed on the application of hardware and software packages and products to the solution of business problems.

A variety of assessment methods are used, including coursework assignments, presentations, in-class assessments and group and individual projects.
This course provides an ideal pathway for anyone who wants to pursue a career in management within public or commercial organisations. On successful completion of this course students may apply to The Manchester College to top up the HNC to an HND.
Applicants are required to have a BTEC Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in an IT or business-related subject area, or an equivalent level 3 qualification with appropriate content. UCAS tariff points required: 80.
Mature students (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity may also apply.
