What's the Business and Management course about?

This course is aimed at individuals who are keen to enter or progress in the field of management. It covers all the key areas of business and management common to any business organisation, such as operations, marketing, sales, HR, development and finance. The course features a substantial vocational element and industry experience, equipping students with knowledge and understanding of the demands of business and management, and enabling them to make an immediate contribution in employment. Students will study a combination of core business subjects and specialist management subjects. There is a clear emphasis on developing skills relevant to the world of work and making practical links between theory and the demands of modern day management. This course will equip students with the relevant transferable skills in communication, information technology, research, problem solving and decision making required by managers within diverse industries. A work experience placement is an integral part of this programme.

Examples of student assessments are practical work (organising activities), written assignments (reports, essays), presentations, examinations and case study analysis. A work-based project involving a work placement is a compulsory element. Assignments can be set in groups or on an individual basis.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

Students completing the foundation degree will have the opportunity to top-up their qualification to the BA (Honours) Degree in Business Administration (with pathways) at Manchester Metropolitan University. Students can apply through UCAS for other top-up degree programmes at other Universities. Alternatively, graduates will be prepared for further study to professional business related qualifications such as CIM, CMI, CIPD.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

Applicants are required to have a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/Extended Diploma with Merit, Pass, Pass or a BTEC Level 3 National Certificate/Extended Certificate with Merit, Merit in a business-related subject area, or an equivalent level 3 qualification with appropriate content. Minimum UCAS tariff points required: 160.

Mature applicants (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity are also encouraged to apply.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Business and Management course?
