This course is designed for students wanting to pursue a career in human resource management.The programme provides challenging, comprehensive learning experiences and develops students intellectual, communication and practical abilities.
All students are expected to undertake work experience in both years of the course where they investigate a chosen topic and practice skills developed on the course. The course is classroom based (aside from the work experience element) and is delivered full time over two days by subject and industry specialist staff.

Year 1 Modules
-Work Based Learning (30 credits):
This module gives students an opportunity to use their part time employment or work experience programme to further enhance the skills learnt on the course. Students must be in organised voluntary and/or paid work for a minimum of 100 hours during the academic year.
-Information Analysis and Finance for Business (30 credits)
Students will gain an understanding and interpretation of financial statements and the use of costing techniques.
-Understanding and Managing People (30 Credits)
Students will study a range of psychological and sociological models related to understanding and managing people.
-Global Context of Modern Business (30 credits)
This module will offer students a breadth of understanding of the global business environment.
Year 2 Modules (currently under review and may be liable to modification):
-Work Based Learning 2 (20 credits):
Students in the 2nd year are expected to be more independent and reflective on their experiences learnt in the 1st year.
-Employee Development (20 credits):
The purpose of this module is to provide students with the key knowledge, skills and competencies required by specialists and managers/team leaders to manage and develop individuals.
-Employment Law (20 credits):
This module provides students with a broad overview of the major contemporary developments in employment relations.
-Business Sustainability (20 credits):
This module offers students the opportunity to research and evaluate ecological and ethical issues and their impact on business.
-Innovation, Creativity & Enterprise (20 credits):
This module explores entrepreneurial skills and creative thinking.
-Managing People (20 credits):
Students will gain an understanding of the range of concepts and models central to organisational behaviour and management.
The course is assessed throughout the year. Tasks are based around industry scenarios and are practical in many of the modules. Some assessments also include elements of self and peer group assessments.
Students completing the foundation degree will have the opportunity to top-up their qualification to the BA (Honours) Degree in Business Administration (with pathways) at Manchester Metropolitan University. Students can apply through UCAS for other top-up degree programmes at other Universities. Alternatively, graduates will be prepared for further study to professional business related qualifications such as CIPD.
Other students have gained employment in a related field.
The ideal candidate will want to develop a career in human resources. Applicants will normally be considered for entry to Foundation Degrees provided that the following requirements are met:
Three GCSE subjects at Grade C or higher including Maths and English Language at grade C, and one subject at GCE A2 Level (or nationally accepted alternative qualifications) at grade C. Alternatively the applicant should have successfully completed a level 3 NVQ or BTEC qualification.
Mature applicants (aged 21 or over) who have no formal academic qualifications may be considered for entry to the programme if they can demonstrate that they have experience, motivation and personal qualities appropriate for foundation degree level work. Such applicants will usually have at least three years relevant work experience and should submit a formal portfolio.
