Brett's climbing the ladder in business
Brett Barnes, 22, graduated from the HND in Business Studies at The Manchester College. He's still at the college, studying for a BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance. Brett's ambition is to be his own boss but, in the meantime, he's gaining as much experience in business as he can. Brett recently won sales executive of the year at work.
Before coming to The Manchester College, Brett was living in South Africa and took A levels in English, Afrikaans, maths, computer practice, accounting, biology and science. He took a gap year before entering higher education and then studied for a HND Business Studies at The Manchester College, which he passed with merit. He was then accepted to study for a BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance at the college.

‘My main ambition is to be my own boss. My short term aspirations are to develop my skills in the finance sector by securing a job and hopefully working up the corporate ladder into a “Fortune 500” company.
‘Since arriving in the UK four years ago, I’ve opted to work in a sales environment; partly for the excellent commission based wage but also to gain confidence in the sales and business environment. My hard work and dedication paid off recently when I won a competition for best sales executive of the year and got to go on a company holiday to Cuba.
