Assessment of your needs
Before you start your course you will meet with a specialist support worker to carry out an in depth assessment of your needs. You are actively encouraged through the use of agreed targets to achieve your maximum level of independence.
We give support on an individual or group basis in session, and within the wider college environment for example on trips and visits.
If you have a mental health condition this service helps you to:
- Make arrangements to visit the college or meet up on an open day and get a guided tour of the site.
- Identify what support you need before you start your course
- Work with your tutor and your care team if you have one to help keep stress and anxiety under control.
- Stay in College and achieve on your course
- Access other College services and activities
- Learn the skills that you need for working life or Higher Education
- Liaise with your care team or mental health support outside college.
- Develop self -advocacy skills.
- Support learning and participation in College.
- Refer to specialist agencies in the community.
- Develop social skills and confidence levels.
What should you do?
- Make sure that you have disclosed on your application and/or enrolment form.
- If you are on a course, ask for a referral through your tutor or visit your student services team, or e-mail to the address below.
