Leadership Academy

Interested in sports leadership, coaching and volunteering? The Manchester College Leadership Academy is part of our sports academy programme. The Leadership Academy was introduced in 2011/12.

If you’re chosen for the leadership academy you’ll have opportunities to volunteer at sporting events inside and outside college. You’ll also have opportunities to gain National Governing Body coaching qualifications.

You don’t have to study on a sports course to be part of the leadership academy.

What does the leadership academy do?

The Manchester College Leadership Academy aims to help young leaders develop themselves and get regular, high quality training and support. We’re looking for students who are committed to volunteering, developing themselves as sports leaders and supporting college and community events.

As a member of the leadership academy you would:

  • volunteer for a number of hours over the year
  • meet every week with other members, to plan and design future events and projects
  • get guidance and training from the college’s sports development team
  • work towards National Governing Body and industry recognised qualifications

The academy will also link in to national and regional leadership projects, including:

  • the FA’s ‘Football Futures’ programme
  • Youth Sports Trust ‘Step into Sport’ programme
  • Manchester Volunteer Bureau

How do I get involved?

To join the leadership academy you’ll need to:

  • attend a trial
  • be chosen for the leadership academy
  • enrol on a full time course at The Manchester College
