Competitions/Events

The Manchester College provides opportunities for students to participate in competitions within the British College Sports framework outside of the Sports Academies, in sports such as badminton, swimming, cross country and tennis. In addition, students can participate in fixtures against other colleges or in one of the intra-college campus leagues or cup competitions.

Free Women's football

College students are invited to come along and play in a fun, informal environment. Sessions are female-only and all abilities are welcome. There will be sessions at three college campuses. It’s free to play. Sessions are for students at The Manchester College only.

The Manchester College 5-a-side Powerleague

Love football? Played often? Never played before? Want to play on state-of-the-art pitches?

The Manchester College is running a 5-a-side football league at Powerleague in Ardwick. Students of all abilities are welcome to play - come along even if you've never played before. It's a great way to meet new people. You can form your own 5-a-side team before signing up or just turn up and we'll put you together with other students.

The Manchester College North District League

This 7-a-side league is aimed at students at campuses in north Manchester; St Matthews, Harpurhey and Moston, and is held at Manchester Communications Academy. Cost is £1 per player. Northenden 11-a-Side

The Northenden Campus has its own 11-a-side Men’s Football Team, ensuring access to competition for students at Northenden and Wythenshawe Campuses. This team plays in the British Colleges Sport North West Participation league, playing on a Wednesday afternoon against other colleges within the region. The team also have weekly training sessions on Mondays from 4.45-6pm.

Small-Sided Football

The Manchester College has a small-sided football programme, offering the opportunity to win trophies and qualify for the Manchester College Cup. This programme will have a number of campus specific leagues and competitions taking place throughout the year.

‘Just Play’ Mondays, 12.30-2pm

The Manchester College runs an FA Mars Just Play Centre at The Cage at Openshaw Campus. Friday afternoons now provide an opportunity for students to simply turn up and play football in a format to suit the groups needs. There is a focus on the social aspect of football, with numerous informal games being played. This is open to both male and female students at The Manchester College, whether you are in higher education or further education. No hassle, Just turn up and Play!

Disability Football League

The Manchester College’s disability football team is playing in the British Colleges Sport North West Regional Qualifier, which is being hosted by The Manchester College at The Nicholls Football Centre. The winner of this qualifier will be nominated to compete nationally against other colleges. Following on from this, The Manchester College will be hosting a Manchester College’s Ability Counts Football League. Football Training for the Disability Academy takes place every Tuesday, from 10am-11.30am.
