Before you start your course, you’ll be able to meet with a qualified teacher of deaf people (TOD). They’ll do an assessment to find out what kind of support will be most helpful to you. The assessment is from NATED (National Association for Tertiary Education for Deaf People).

A CSW can
support you in class using BSL (British Sign Language)
sign everything the tutor and other students say
voice everything you sign
change the wording in handouts so the English is clear
check the English in your written work
Educational support worker (ESW)
An educational support worker is a person who is deaf and works with deaf students. They can
use simple and clear BSL
support in classes of deaf students where the tutor is using BSL
support you in a class with hearing students
Note taking
A professional note taker can
take notes for you in class
take notes on a laptop or using pen and paper
The note taker will take the type of notes you prefer.
