What are the aims of this course?

This course is designed to develop coaching and leadership skills and promote good practice when delivering activity sessions. It also allows progression onto other college courses.

What are the areas covered by this course?

Areas covered include:
- Preparing for a session
- Leading a session
- Concluding and reviewing a session
- Promoting safety in the sport and activity environment
- Contributing to the work of the team
- Setting up and taking down complex equipment
- Supporting the protection of children from abuse

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

Two GCSEs at grade C/D or above, plus a positive Record of Achievement/Progress File.

How is the course assessed?

You will be assessed on a portfolio of evidence collected throughout the course and on the completion of a work placement.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?

Upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded a City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Sport, Recreation and Allied Occupations: Activity Leadership, plus FA Football Coaching Certificates at Levels 1 and 2. You will also have the opportunity to complete Functional Skills that will help develop important skills - like communication, team working, presentation, and problem solving.

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

On completion of the Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership, you can progress onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport or Public Services. Advice on opportunities for further study will be provided during your course.

What are the career opportunities?

This qualification can lead to youth or community work in sports coaching and teaching. Specialist careers advice will be available from our Advice and Guidance Team throughout your course.
