What are the aims of this course?

This course provides you with an exciting balance of creative skills and technical knowledge relating to photo imaging. You will explore many directions in contemporary photography and emphasis is placed on the design and the development of your creative images and ideas. You will explore both digital and wet technologies to produce photography based on your personal ideas and enthusiasms. You will have the opportunity to visit exhibitions and undertake a variety of photographic work of the landscape, both rural and urban. Plus, you will have access to a new Mac suite, base room, wet dark room and fully equipped studio.

The course covers the following areas:
- An introduction to camera controls
- Digital imaging
- Black and white processing
- Studio lighting
- Location work

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

Five GCSEs at grade A-C, including Maths and English, or a BTEC First Diploma (or equivalent) with a Merit grade.

How is the course assessed?

You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including assignments and practical tasks.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design (Photo Imaging). You will also have the opportunity to complete Functional Skills that will help develop important skills - like communication, team working, presentation, and problem solving.

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

This qualification is acceptable to universities and higher education colleges for entry to HND and degree courses. Advice on opportunities for further study will be provided during your course.

What are the career opportunities?

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Photo Imaging allows progression into a wide range of careers in the field of photography, in disciplines such as wedding photography, advertising and promotions, studio portraiture, school photography, environmental photography, fashion photography, police and forensic photography.
