What are the aims of this course?

This course is designed to provide you with a range of knowledge and skills in art, design and media to enable progression into a wide choice of disciplines. During the course you will explore different materials, techniques and processes and learn how to develop your creative ideas.

What are the areas covered by this course?

The course includes the study of the following core units:
- Exploring visual language in art, design and media
- Exploring materials, techniques and processes in art, design and media
- Exploring and developing art, design and media ideas
- Personal project in art, design or media

Plus two additional units that you can choose from a wide range of options.

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

No formal qualifications are required, however, you will need a positive attitude, commitment, self-motivation and an enthusiasm for art, design and media. The course is designed for school leavers. Entry level courses are also available for those who want to progress to a level 1 qualification but are presently at Entry Level 2

How is the course assessed?

You will be assessed by coursework.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?

On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Art and Design. You will have the opportunity to complete Functional Skills that will help develop important skills - like communication, team working, presentation, and problem solving.

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

Successful completion of the course can lead directly to BTEC Level 2 courses in art and design, media and fashion. Advice on opportunities for further study will be provided during your course.

What are the career opportunities?

After progressing onto higher level courses, students can seek employment in industry in a wide variety of career areas, including architecture, design (graphic, textile, fashion, furniture, 3D etc), advertising and teaching.
