What are the aims of this course?
With its ever expanding creative industry, Manchester has significant skills gaps in several growth areas of the creative labour market. This innovative course has, therefore, been designed to equip you with the design skills needed to enable you to enter into employment in this exciting field. In addition to practical and theoretical skills, however, you will have the unique opportunity to learn about the industry you plan to work in and to prepare yourself for the world of work, focusing on your own career goals. In doing this, you will also develop useful business skills that will be of value to employers, such as enterprise and marketing skills.
What are the areas covered by this course?
Compulsory units:
- Developing two-dimensional visual language skills
- Developing three-dimensional visual language skills
- Finding out about the work of artists, craftspeople, designers and business practices
- Discovering opportunities for further study and employment
- Developing skills in working to briefs
In addition, you will take appropriate optional units to suit your individual needs.
What qualifications do I need to do this course?
Two GCSEs at grade C/D or above, plus a positive Record of Achievement/Progress File.
How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed by projects, assignments, coursework and written tests.
Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design. You will also have the opportunity to complete Functional Skills that will help develop important skills - like communication, team working, presentation, and problem solving.
What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?
After completing the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design, the next step is the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design. Advice on opportunities for further study will be provided during your course.
