What are the aims of this course?

The animal care industry has grown considerably in recent years, largely owing to a greater public focus on animal health and welfare issues. As such, it is providing a wide range of challenging but fulfilling and rewarding career opportunities for individuals with the right qualifications. This course is aimed at individuals with a keen interest in animals, who aspire to senior positions, such as supervisory or managerial roles. It would also be a good starting point for anyone interested in self-employment in this field.

- Animal feeding and nutrition
- Animal handling and safe working

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

Five GCSEs at grade A-C, including Maths and English, or a BTEC First Diploma (or equivalent) with a Merit grade.

How is the course assessed?

You will be assessed by a combination of assignments, practical, tests and off site projects.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded an NPTC Level 3 Diploma in Animal Management. You will also have the opportunity to complete Functional Skills that will help develop important skills - like communication, team working, presentation, and problem solving.

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

This qualification is acceptable to universities and higher education colleges for entry to HND and degree courses. Advice on opportunities for further study will be provided during your course.

What are the career opportunities?

On completion of the course you would be qualified to work in a wide range of job roles, such as: breeder, pet shop assistant or manager, animal rescue work, quarantine establishment work, animal trainer, zoo keeper, animal beautician, kennel/cattery assistant/manager, or animal welfare officer. Specialist careers advice will be available from our Advice and Guidance Team throughout your course.
