Students from The Manchester College's Wythenshawe Campus recently visited Great British Sports Cars in Nottingham to collect a 'Zero Kit'. Zero is a build project for college students.
Students spent the day talking to the technicians at GBS to take in tips and ideas on how to construct their car. The students then had a tour of the factory and met one of the directors of the company, former rally driver, Kith Bird.
Great British Sports Cars is one of the leading names in the British Kit cars industry and is a well known brand across the world. The company launched the 'Zero' back in 2007, which allows people to build their own sports cars from scratch.
Derek Doggett, 14-19 course tutor in Motor Vehicle said: 'The lads had a fantastic day at GBS and are looking forward to the invite of taking the complete GBS Zero car back to a track day event sponsored by them. The students have started the build which is going well and already making good progress.'
Derek added: 'All the lads in the group are very excited with this project and managing the build, working with joinery to build the dash board, media to film it and the Motor Vehicle Body Shop at Openshaw Campus to paint the frame.'
The group are currently looking for sponsorship to be able to construct the vehicle to race specifications.
