Jenny Meanwell-Trafford, a second year National Diploma Art and Design student, has secured a place to study 3D Design at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).
Jenny, who specialises in ceramics, left school in Year 9 but rediscovered her potential at The Manchester College. Jenny has been working on a series of pieces inspired by the seashore.
Jenny will exhibit her work on 23rd June as part of the End of Year Show at Northenden Campus. She has been working on pieces in porcelain based on her studies of the seashore and chose porcelain for its translucent qualities.
Following her application through UCAS, the university asked Jenny to create a blog of her work, including print, jewellery, ceramics and drawing. Jenny created the blog over two weeks and included examples of her best work. MMU then asked Jenny to come in for an interview, where she showed samples of her work again. She's looking forward to studying on the BA (Hons) degree in 3D Design, specialising in ceramics.
Two years after leaving school Jenny enrolled on an Introduction to Further Education course at The Manchester College. She gained Level 1 qualifications and went on to do a BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design. She then moved on to the National Diploma in Art and Design, which she studies at the Northenden campus.
Jenny encourages students thinking of studying at The Manchester College to make the most of the opportunity: ‘Appreciate everything! Appreciate learning.’
The Manchester College will hold four End of Year Shows in June, across four campuses. The shows will be on:
14th June – Openshaw campus
16th June – Shena Simon campus
21st June – Moston campus
23rd June – Northenden campus
