Manchester band Undercolour were formed in 2010 by five music students who met at The Manchester College. Undercolour, who are working on their debut album, have gained a large following and featured in Kerrang! Magazine. Punktastic.com said: ‘If Circa Survive and Paramore had babies their offspring would sound a lot like Undercolour’.
Undercolour are: Stefania Galasso (vocals), Elliot Robertson (guitar), Sam Lomax (guitar and backing vocals), Suthee Phoncheewin (bass) and Scott Jackson (drums). All five are from Manchester and are now studying at the Bristol Institute of Modern Music.
We caught up with Undercolour drummer, Scott Jackson, who says there would be no Undercolour without The Manchester College...
Tell us about your time at The Manchester College
We loved The Manchester College. It really gave us the chance to harness and develop the fundamental skills, such as theory and musicianship, which have given us a brilliant grounding in actually being a band. More importantly it gave us the chance to learn from other musicians who all have different influences and styles. It opened our eyes and ears to different genres of music and has heavily influenced our writing as a band.
How do you think The Manchester College prepared you for forming a band?
The band actually met at the college so if it were not for The Manchester College there would literally be no Undercolour!
What gigs have you played recently?
We have just played a hometown show at Soundcontrol in Manchester with My Passion and have recently supported bands such as Blitz Kids, I Call Fives, Me vs Hero, Pegasus Bridge and Paige. We hope to be releasing our debut album in the summer and have tour dates planned supporting Francesqa at the end of May and Futures in June.
