Automotive and engineering students at The Manchester College will be able to work on a heavy trailer donated by Suttons. A Suttons apprentice who is training at the college suggested the gift. The trailer will be useful to students training in heavy trailer maintenance and repair, and irtec candidates.
Suttons are a leader in global logistics. One of their apprentices, Luke Edwards, is training at The Manchester College by day release. Luke suggested the company donate the trailer.
Students on the new Heavy Trailer Maintenance and Repair apprenticeship will be able to work on the trailer. The college will also use the trailer to assess candidates seeking irtec accreditation. It can be used for valve replacements, brake system, wheel bearing and full trailer inspections.
Generous gifts like this trailer help us keep up our high standards
Andrew Palmer, managing director of Suttons Group, said: ‘It made good sense for us to make this investment as it will benefit our own employees who study at the college. We have been very impressed with Luke’s progression and are sure he will be the first of many of our employees who complete their training at the college’s Openshaw Campus.’
David Patterson, vice principal for 19+ learners at the college said: ‘We strive to be at the forefront of automotive training with workshops that are technologically advanced and well-equipped. Generous gifts like this trailer help us keep up our high standards. I hope the relationship between our two organisations continues to flourish in the future.’
