Students from The Manchester College set to be part of the Olympic broadcasting team

As preparations continue for the 2012 Olympics, students from The Manchester College will be playing their own role in the worldwide media coverage of the games. Five students have been appointed to carry out the broadcasting of the football, which will be taking place at Manchester United Football Club.

The Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) who are the company responsible for the broadcasting of the Olympics selected nine institutions in England and Wales from which students could apply to be part of the broadcasting team. 8 out of the 9 institutions selected were universities, The Manchester College was the only college!

This is an amazing opportunity for our students to work on the biggest worldwide TV event there is

Programme team leader, Colin Ralph said: ‘This is an amazing opportunity for our students to work alongside experienced professionals in the biggest worldwide TV event there is! We're also particularly proud to be the only UK college to be selected as a training centre, it's a recognition of the key role that foundations degrees play in the broadcast sector.’

Interested students studying on the TV and Film Production and the Broadcast Television Foundation Degrees at The Manchester College attended a four day training programme where they got to work alongside broadcast professionals and gain practical experience of how the largest broadcasting operation in the world will be put together. Following the training, students who had excelled during the four days were offered paid positions.
