Students from The Manchester College to attend the music industry's leading networking event

'South by South West' (SXSW) is held in Austin Texas every year and is one of the most venerated music industry events in the world. It plays host to over 2,000 musical acts and has grown into 'a must-attend networking event for the 21st century music industry'. The event includes showcases, panels, discussions, technological innovation and creative exposure.

SXSW has been a destination for the students of The Manchester College for many years now. The music department has a very strong commitment to work-based learning, and where better to expose music technology, performance and music management students to the music business than the epicentre of industry relations?

This year, The Manchester College is taking a record 63 students and staff to Austin to engage in work placements, networking, professional updating, promoting the new college record label – We Are FuturEcho – and generally soaking up the atmosphere of a cracking music festival!

Students will be involved in running a brand new stage in the SXSW Trade Show – the Gear Alley stage – where exhibitors will showcase the latest in music industry equipment.

Students from the college will deliver a live blog to the National Skills Academy direct from Austin, documenting the valuable experiences that our students encounter.
