Simon Rimmer cooks lunch at The Manchester College

Hospitality and Catering students at The Manchester College's Fielden Campus were treated to a session in the kitchen with 'Something for the Weekend's' celebrity chef, Simon Rimmer. Simon worked closely with students on the VRQ Level 1 Professional Cookery and the FLT in Hospitality and Catering to produce a fantastic menu using locally sourced produce.

The delicious dishes included an arancini and pesto starter and a fabulous main course of Indian spiced parcel. The students got a lot out of the day and it was a real confidence booster when Simon complimented them on some of the innovative techniques they were using.

It was a fantastic event. The food was sublime and the students worked really hard.

Food and Beverages Service tutor Jonathan Turtle said ‘It really was a fantastic event. The students really appreciated the chance to work with somebody who is recognised for producing such top quality food. The food was sublime and all students involved worked really hard.’

The food was really tasty and the service was outstanding. The students should be very proud of themselves.

Customers at the training restaurant, Restaurant 141, were equally impressed. One diner said: ‘The food was really tasty and the service was outstanding. All students involved should be very proud of themselves.’

Restaurant 141 is open to the public on Tuesdays for lunch and Thursdays for evening service. For more information call 0161 611 7417 or email 141restaurant@themanchestercollege.ac.uk
