Public service students at The Manchester College have raised large amounts of money for national and international charities over the last few months. The students have been presented with certificates to celebrate their achievement.
Activities the students have participated in include a sponsored 8km walk/run around Dovestone Reservoir in Saddleworth which raised over £600, sending 120 gift boxes for children and young people in Kosovo through the charity Operation Christmas Child, and most recently a non-uniform day which raised £140 for Comic Relief.
The total amount raised by the students is just over £1,300, which reflects how hard the students have worked alongside their tutors and youth workers to ensure the success of their fundraising, to gain an awareness of social and economic issues both in this country and abroad, and to make a positive contribution to society.
Public services tutor Parley Hamilton said: ‘the students have been really pro-active, enthusiastic and willing to make a difference to people who are less fortunate than themselves.’
