Place on prestigious games design degree for Kristopher

Former student Kristopher Burr, 19, has been offered an unconditional place at prestigious Abertay University in Dundee to study BA (Hons) Game Design and Production Management.

Abertay has been awarded Skillset (the Sector Skills Council for the Creative Industries) Media Academy status with all courses being Skillset accredited. In addition, the Scottish Government designated Abertay University as the Scottish University Centre for Excellence in Computer Games Education.

Kristopher first came to the college’s Openshaw Campus to do a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production, following that he enrolled on our BTEC Extended Diploma in Games Development, finishing with a Distinction Merit Merit (DMM).

Originally living near Inverness in Scotland with his mother, Kristopher wanted to do a games design course, but there we no suitable courses within travelling distance, so he decided to move in with his father in Moston and study at The Manchester College.

Kristopher said: ‘I have always been interested in computer games and have been playing them from a very young age, my dad remembers me playing Super Mario when I was just three years old. Now I really like games like Command and Conquer.

‘I really liked it at the college, everyone was really friendly and my tutor was really helpful and supportive. The BTEC Extended Diploma in Games Development taught me a lot about the games industry and job roles. We also learnt how to use all the software needed in creating games.

‘I am really excited to be going to Abertay University, but will be sad to leave the college and will miss the friends I have made here. When I finish university I would like to work for a games company designing 3D models and in the long term I would like to manage my own team designing a game.’
