Pilot apprenticeship scheme with international retailer

The Manchester College has formed a partnership with Aldi to offer apprenticeships to young people who have left school or will be leaving this summer. Apprentices will earn while they learn and have the opportunity to progress to assistant store manager within three years.

The Aldi Apprenticeship Scheme gives apprentices the opportunity to earn £6,500 per year and earn from £25,000 per year if they progress to assistant store manager. Working with Aldi and training at The Manchester College will give the apprentices the opportunity to learn the most efficient business practices and how they are changing the way people shop.

The Manchester College is looking for young people with a passion for retail and an enthusiasm for learning, to be part of the pilot apprenticeship scheme with Aldi UK.

The apprentices will have a unique opportunity to create a career for themselves

Riccy Longden, assistant principal responsible for apprenticeships, said: ‘The Manchester College are proud to work with Aldi, who are a major international brand. We work with a number of large employers on our retail apprenticeships but this is a major step forward in establishing ourselves as industry leaders.

‘The apprentices who are recruited will have a unique opportunity to create a career for themselves with a progressive and expanding organisation. As the home of the Manchester Retail Skills Shop and a member of the National Skills Academy for Retail, I think we are in a prime position to offer this excellent opportunity in partnership with Aldi.’

apprenticeships will provide our store managers of the future

Matthew Speight, a director of Aldi in the north west said: ‘Aldi is keen to ensure the success of this pilot and are confident apprenticeships will provide our store managers of the future. We also recognise the strength of The Manchester College in helping us achieve our aims.’
