Students at The Manchester College are celebrating AS and A level examination results with excellent performances by many of the 1,542 students taking exams. The overall pass rate at AS and A level was 84.6% at grades A-E, which is an increase of 2.9% from last year.
Special mention should be made of Sreeharshan Thampy, studying at the college’s South Manchester Sixth Form, who achieved fantastic results. He received A* grades in Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, plus an A grade in Advanced Extension Award in Maths.
Sreeharshan said: ‘I decided to come to The Manchester College because they allowed me to do the combination of A levels that I wanted and I knew I'd get all the support I needed to succeed. I would say college has definitely prepared me for going to university - you get a lot of help with learning how to be independent and focusing on self study, just like I'll need to do at university.’
At the North Manchester Sixth Form, A level student Alexander Walker was congratulated by staff and fellow students on achieving an A* grade in English Literature, an A in Law and a B in Psychology.
Notable success stories at the Central Manchester Sixth Form include Reza Hekmat (4 A grades in A level Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics) and Sarah Mahmood (4 A grades at AS level in English Language, English Literature, Film Studies and Sociology), Beatrice Porcescu (4 A grades in A level Maths, Economics, Business Studies and Pschology), Huong Linh Nguyen (A* grade in A level Maths, A grades Further Maths and Accounting, and a B grade in Economics) and Thao Do (A* in A level Maths and an A in Further Maths).
Other students who achieved straight A grades include Duong Phan (A level Maths, Further Maths and Law), Delia Stanway (A level English Language, English Literature and Sociology), Brian Azizi (AS level Maths, Physics and Chemistry), Junaid Bokhari (AS level Maths, Physics and Accounting), Rachel Colwell (AS level Law, English Language and Film), Viktorija Cumacenko (AS level Maths, Accounting and ICT), and Ali Ghaffar (AS level Maths, Chemistry and Physics).
Principal, Peter Tavernor, expressed his congratulations to the students on their results, “The college is delighted to be able to join so many students in celebrating their fantastic achievements, but it’s not just about A grades. We are proud of all of our students,the vast majority of whom have achieved the grades they need to progress. Their achievements are testament to the hard work of both the students and our staff, and reflects the high levels of tuition and support provided by the college.”
