North Manchester students work in partnership with the emergency services

Students at The Manchester College have helped to educate the people of Harpurhey about the dangers of drink driving. Media make-up and performing arts students helped stage an 'accident' as part of the Greater Manchester Police Week of Action.

Alongside the other emergency services, officers created a crash scene outside Harpurhey Police Station. Students studying the Foundation Degree in Design - Media Make-up at Moston Campus used their skills to transform volunteers into victims. The effects were so convincing that many members of the public thought there had been a real accident.

Working on the car crash has provided us with invaluable experience and will look great on our CVs

Nicola Hadley a student on the course said: 'Working on the car crash incident has really provided us with invaluable experience and will look great on our CVs when we finish our degree and we’re applying for jobs within the industry. I thoroughly enjoyed the day.'

Performing arts students from the college’s North Manchester Sixth Form used their acting abilities in the roles of the driver and passengers.

It was quite harrowing but definitely a once in a lifetime experience

Conor Fenwick studying Level 2 Performing Arts said 'It was quite a harrowing experience! Everything was so realistic and at times it didn’t feel like a re-enactment. It made it easy to get into character though and it was definitely a once in a lifetime experience.'
