After three years spent training as an automotive apprentice, Daniel Bennett made the college very proud at the motor industry event of the year in June.
Daniel, aged 26 from Tyldesley, was one of 19 finalists invited to attend the annual outstanding automotive achievers event at Fanshaws in Hertfordshire by organisers IMI Awards Ltd, the leading awarding body for the retail motor industry.
Daniel’s tutors nominated him for the IMI awards due to his hard work and commitment to his training and were delighted that he made it to runner-up in the Outstanding Technical Student – Heavy Vehicle award category.
He is currently completing the third year of an automotive apprenticeship at the Openshaw Campus, studying on the level 3 IMI Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Heavy Vehicle).
Along with the other finalists, Daniel was congratulated by HRH Prince Michael of Kent, who said in his opening address: ‘Your skills, competence and ambition are a real credit to this industry. I would like to offer my personal congratulations to all of you, who have worked so hard to earn this recognition.’
Dave Spedding, head of automotive and engineering department (adult), said: ‘Although Daniel didn't win, we are very proud of him. He is an excellent student and we are extremely pleased to get a finalist in the awards this year, especially considering this is the first year we have ever nominated anyone.’
