An art and design student at The Manchester College has made a dress from recycled newspapers featuring news of the current situation in Libya. Marah Elmusrat will exhibit the dress at the upcoming end of year show at Shena Simon campus.
Marah has family in Libya, so the project is a way to express her hopes for a better situation there. She said: ‘I was thinking of making a dress made of newspaper, but when the revolution started I decided to make the dress tell a story. In the exhibition, I want to show that I might wear the dress on the day Libya is free, to celebrate.’

Marah uses several different media in her work. She says: ‘If you’re interested in art this is the best course to do. You can try different media and find out what you like to work with. I’ve learned a lot about painting and have used oil paint for the first time.’
Marah is in the first year of her level 3 course. In the future she would like to study interior design and painting, perhaps combining the two in her work. She wants to apply to university and would like to carry on studying in Greater Manchester. Her work will be exhibited at the end of year show at Shena Simon campus on 16th June.
