Professional cookery students at The Manchester College have enjoyed a master class lead by teaching chefs from Le Cordon Bleu London. Chefs from the renowned cooking institute taught the students techniques and talked to them about career opportunities. Le Cordon Bleu is offering a life-changing scholarship to a 16-19 year old in an online competition.
The students learnt how to cook mini roast chicken lollipops served on Parisian potatoes with a crispy beetroot mille-feuille. Then it was on to sweeter things, as the trainees learned everything there is to know about chocolate before making a variety of truffles with dark chocolate and pralines.
The class was great. I can't believe we made such complicated dishes.
Bethany Eastwood, 17, said: ‘I really want to be a head chef one day and loved this class. It was amazing seeing the dishes we were able to produce in just one hour.’
Leanne Asprey, also 17, said: ‘The class was great. I can’t believe we made such complicated dishes.’
The chefs advised the students to enter a national competition to win Le Grand Diplome Scholarship Award. One passionate 16-19 year old will be offered a scholarship worth more than £30,000 to train in pâtisserie (pastry) and cuisine at Le Cordon Bleu London.

If you would like to be considered for the scholarship, you’ll need to create a short video clip of no more than 1 minute and 30 seconds showing what you know about Le Cordon Bleu and what inspires you. You’ll need to post your clip on Le Cordon Bleu UK Scholarship Award website by 23rd October 2011. Le Cordon Bleu will choose the winner based on their passion and determination.
Roxanne Gilbert, 19 said: ‘I would love to learn everything there is to know about cooking so I may well apply for the scholarship.’
