Harpurhey students are flying high at The Manchester College

Travel and tourism students are flying high at The Manchester College's North Manchester Sixth Form in Harpurhey. The college has installed a mock aircraft cabin to help them carry out their cabin crew training.

The new mock aircraft, which includes a check in desk, working luggage weighing scales and a tannoy system for making passenger announcements, allows students students to carry out practical assessments which are an important part of their course.

Donna Birchall, tutor in travel and tourism said: 'Both of these facilities are a really valuable tool to enable students to gain hands on experience in both cabin crew and the aviation environment and the students really enjoy the practical aspect it brings to the course.'

At the end of the course students are guaranteed an interview for a cabin crew position at Servisair if they meet the following criteria - 95% attendance, get Merit or Distinction grades and complete the course. This equipment will help ensure that more students achieve their desired goal.

Danny Conway, who is a student on the course said: 'I really love the check in desk in particular. I feel the cabin and desk are giving me a valuable insight into the aviation industry and will help when I apply for jobs at a later stage.'

Donna Birchall added: 'At the end of the course students are guaranteed an interview for a cabin crew position at Servisair if they meet the following criteria - 95 % attendance, get Merit or Distinction grades and complete the course.
