Twelve first year students studying professional cookery at The Manchester College have spent an inspirational two weeks in London working in some of the best restaurants in the city.
The work placements were based at six acclaimed London restaurants: Criterion, The Harwood Arms (1 Michelin star), The Ledbury (2 Michelin stars), Texture (1 Michelin star), Semplice (1 Michelin star), and Marco at Chelsea FC.
Working under some of the top chefs in the industry, the students were fully immersed in the world of fine dining and gained a valuable insight into how the city’s best restaurants operate.
Mark Amesbury, chef tutor, said: ‘We are all really proud of them. They were quite nervous at the start and found working full shifts tiring, but it was a real eye-opener and they found it really inspiring. The feedback we received from the restaurants was excellent; they were really impressed by the hard work, skills and talent that our students showed.’
Tutors at The Manchester College have worked hard to develop links with these restaurants and secure the fantastic placements. All of the restaurants involved are keen to take on more students next year and, due to chef networking within the London restaurant scene, another four restaurants have expressed an interest in taking the college’s students for placements. The tutors also hope that next year they will be able to secure placements for second year students in New York.
