The Training Quality Standard (TQS) panel announced this week that it has awarded certification to The Manchester College for its two Part B applications in 'Health Care' and 'Retail', recognising excellence in its work with employers in those sectors.
This latest accolade follows the announcement in April 2009 that the college had been successful in achieving Part A certification for overall employer responsiveness and two Part Bs for sector expertise in its automotive and construction provision.
Such a combination of awards demonstrates that the college is one of the UK’s most successful training providers, working closely with sector skills councils to develop an understanding of market potential and priorities and responding effectively to employers across sectors.
Launched in May 2008, the TQS is an assessment framework designed to recognise best practice in workforce training and development. TQS Part B focuses on those areas where organisations have specific sector expertise, having already demonstrated their ability to serve employers through Part A.
The Manchester College is the first college in the north west to be awarded Part B for Retail and the first college in Greater Manchester to be awarded Part B for Health Care.
The Manchester College principal, Peter Tavernor, said: 'This is wonderful news. We know we are responsive to employers – we have one of the highest levels of tuition fee income in the country and excellent rates of repeat business from our employer clients – but it’s great to be officially recognised.
'The Training Quality Standard is an extremely high profile kite mark – a mark that employers can trust – and one that we are justifiably proud of. Our next step is to look at which other curriculum areas we would like to put forward for the Part B assessment.'
