TV and film students at The Manchester College have won awards at the Screen Stockport film festival and a shortlisting in the Virgin Media Shorts competition. The film '2:20' is up for the Virgin Media Shorts grand prize and the coveted People's Choice award, voted for by the public.
Virgin Media Shorts is a high profile film competition aiming to showcase new talent. 12 winning filmmakers are given the chance to show their work in cinemas across the UK for a year. Other prizes include a £30,000 film budget, BFI mentoring and filmmaking equipment.
'2:20' features impressive visual effects on a shoestring budget
The film 2:20 has been shortlisted for the competition and features impressive visual effects on a shoestring budget. The film was produced by Lucy Lincoln, a student on the Foundation Degree in TV and Film Production at The Manchester College. Rhiannon Clifford, Tom Crowe and Amy McIntyre, also film students at the college, worked alongside Lucy on the film. The film was directed by Jason Wingard, a freelance professional director.
Lucy said: ‘It would be a great achievement to win such a well known film competition.’

Meanwhile, two films made by students at the college have won awards at the Screen Stockport film festival. Behind the Cupboard Door, directed by Dennis Keighron-Foster, won first prize in the student film category. Mad Hatter, directed by Amy McIntyre, won first prize for art design and costume for Rhiannon Clifford. Both films were produced by Lucy Lincoln.
