Automotive awards celebration

Friday 16th July saw the presentation of The Manchester College’s first ever automotive student awards presentation.

The event took place at the Openshaw Campus’ automotive facility, and was hosted by David Spedding, head of automotive and engineering (adult segment).

There were approximately 40 learners, employers and parents in attendance at the awards which fell into eight categories, most sponsored by suppliers of the automotive department.

Top body and paint apprentice – sponsored by ARC Welding Supplies

  • Winner – Gareth Green (received a Welding Mask)
  • Runner up – Kelly Childs

Top mechanical apprentice – sponsored by Snap-on Tools

  • Winner – Paul Jarmin (received a socket set and engraved screwdriver)
  • Runner up – Phillip Horrocks

Top 14-19 body and paint student – sponsored by C&R Motor Factors

  • Winner – Ryan Tully (received a hammer and dolly set)
  • Runner up – Ryan Davies

Top 14-19 mechanical student – sponsored by C&R Motor Factors and Snap-on Tools

  • Winner – Michael Norton (received a socket set and engraved screwdriver)
  • Runner up – Carmine Grimshaw

Top adult body and paint student – sponsored by Colourtone

  • Winner – Tyrone Anderson (received a professional spraygun set)
  • Runner up – Bau San

Top adult mechanical student – sponsored by C&R Motor Factors and Snap-on Tools

  • Winner – Monday Elemah (received a spanner and torx set and an engraved screwdriver)
  • Runner up – Robin Marshall

Top 14-19 automotive student – sponsored by The Manchester College

  • Winner – mechanical student, Michael Norton (received an engraved trophy)

Automotive student of the year – sponsored by local businessman Colin Chambers of Belsize Garage

  • Winner – adult mechanical student, Monday Elemah (received a large trophy which will be retained by the department and displayed each year with the winner’s name engraved on the base. There was also a glass trophy for Monday to take away).

Dave Spedding said: “It was very rewarding to see so many students come away with awards for their hard work over the last year. Monday Elemah deserves a special mention for his effort and determination leading up to and throughout his studies this year. We hope to run the awards every year from now on and already have suppliers committing to sponsorship for next year’s event.”
