Amani designs winning poster for Brook competition

Amani Khan, aged 18, from Crumpsall, recently won a competition run by Brook to design a sexual health poster about staying safe for the C-Card scheme. Amani, who is studying on the first year of a level 3 IT and business course at our Openshaw Campus, along with the rest of her class designed competition posters after being involved in a sexual health tutorial.

The competition was run across all of The Manchester College campuses. The winning design was judged by a panel of young people who said Amani’s poster stood out from the others with its clever use of text and images. Amani won a £50 voucher for HMV and her design has been made into a poster to be used across the college and other venues across Manchester where young people visit, such as the Manchester Youth Service.

When asked about the design, Amani said: ‘I was very surprised when I was told that I had won, especially as I had designed it in a short space of time.’

Youth worker Lesa Duncan added:

‘it’s great to know that one of our student’s work will be shown across the city.’

The C-Card scheme involves a small plastic card that you can get if you have had a discussion with a youth worker or a range of other trained professionals about the use of condoms. The C-Card can then be exchanged for free condoms.
