How to get there
By bus
From the city centre bus nos. 1, 20, F2, and F3 to Kirkby stop on Longmoor Lane, and bus nos. 19 and 19b to Kirkby stop on East Lanes Road.
From the city centre bus nos. 17c, 17d, 1, and 17 to Fazakerley stop on Lower Lane. From Aintree station bus no. 121 stops outside the prison.
By train
Arrive at Liverpool Lime Street Station in the city centre, then take the Northern Line Kirkby train to Fazakerley Station. Exit the station and turn left onto the main road, Longmoor Lane, until reaching traffic lights. Turn right onto Lower Lane (signposted Fazakerley Hospital), pass the hospital on the right and at the next traffic lights turn right into Higher Lane. HMP Altcourse is approximately. 1/4 mile on your right.
By car
From the M57: Exit at Junction 4 to join the A5809 East Lanes Road (signposted Liverpool). Pass the Showcase cinema on your left. At the next set of traffic lights, turn right (signposted Fazakerley Hospital) onto Lower Lane. Pass the Police Station on the left and then turn left at the next traffic lights into Higher Lane. HMP Altcourse is approximately 1/4 mile on your right.
From North Wales: Exit Birkenhead Tunnel and take the A59 (signposted Preston). Continue through the shopping area after passing Walton Hospital and HMP Liverpool on the left. The road forks at the traffic lights by the Black Bull pub. Continue, on what turns into dual carriageway, towards Preston passing Fazakerley Rail Station on the left. Turn left at the next traffic lights into Lower Lane (signposted Fazakerley Hospital). Pass the hospital on the right and then turn right at the traffic lights into Higher Lane. HMP Altcourse is approximately 1/4 mile on your right.
