What are the aims of this course?

This course leads to a work-related foundation qualification and provides the practical, creative and design skills needed to enter employment or progress onto another college course within the media, digital graphics and interactive technology field. You will be set challenging work, where you will explore up-to-the minute technology and software such as PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks and Stop Motion Pro for creating websites, designing graphics, desktop publishing and animation. You will develop technical skills and practical experience in researching, planning, designing and developing a range of work, and building a portfolio.

What are the areas covered by this course?

You will study the following units: - Introduction to media industries - Web authoring - Digital graphics - Interactive media production - Research for media production - Introduction to media audiences and products

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

Two GCSEs at grade C/D or above, plus a positive Record of Achievement/Progress File and an aptitude for creativity and design is essential.

How is the course assessed?

The course is assessed through project work. Your final assessment will be a portfolio presentation, exhibition of work and an externally assessed major project.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a BTEC First Diploma in Media (Interactive Media Production). You will also have the opportunity to complete the Key Skills Certificate.

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

On completion of the BTEC First Diploma in Media you can apply to study on BTEC National programmes in Interactive Media or ICT. Advice on opportunities for further study will be provided during your course.

What are the career opportunities?

This qualification can be used to gain employment in the vast field of media, digital media and interactive media, including graphic design and web design. Specialist careers advice will be available from our Advice and Guidance Team throughout your course.
