What's the Computing (Business) course about?

This course ensures students acquire a broad understanding and competence in organisation structure, the business environment and systems, the analysis and design of database development, together with the underpinning theory of computer architecture and networks. It is designed to enable students to function effectively in the business world in the provision of IT systems for the support of the information requirements of organisations. The course develops knowledge and skills in business and IT through an integrative teaching and learning strategy. The principles and techniques of management are also studied and offer an opportunity to combine a business and technical education in an applied vocational context. Particular emphasis is placed on the application of hardware and software packages/products to the solution of business problems. It is most suited to individuals who wish to relate their technical knowledge to a broad range of business issues from a general management perspective.
Subjects studied include: - Computer platforms - Systems analysis - Programming concepts - Database design concepts - Networking concepts - Information systems - Networking technology - MS Office solutions - Systems analysis
A variety of assessment methods are used, including coursework assignments and in-class tests.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

This course provides an ideal pathway for anyone who wants to pursue a career in management within public or commercial organisations. An HND top-up course is available for students who want to convert the HNC to an HND by studying six additional units.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

Applicants are required to have a BTEC National Diploma or Certificate in an IT or business-related subject area, or an equivalent level 3 qualification with appropriate content. Mature students (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity may also apply.
