What's the IT Practitioners (ICT Systems Support) course about?

The course provides a broad knowledge of hardware and operating system technologies and includes practical experience of installation, configuration, diagnostics, preventive maintenance and basic networking. Designed with the needs of employers in mind, the qualification offers candidates the chance to take vendor specific certification (CISCO and CompTIA). The course is delivered through lectures and workshops. It is designed to be a practical course which develops problem solving skills.
You must complete the following units: - Customer support - Cisco IT Essentials 1 (CompTIA A+ Essentials) - Installation of Software, configuration and troubleshooting - Installation of Hardware, configuration and troubleshooting
Assessment is through portfolio based practical tasks for some units. The Cisco IT Essentials 1 and CompTIA A+ units are assessed through electronic online tests.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

The shift in working practices towards computer-based information systems has led to a demand for people competent in computer repair, maintenance and installation. When you have completed this course you can also go onto study for the City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Diploma for IT Professionals (ICT Systems Support). The course could also lead to career opportunities as a computer hardware engineer, computer operator, computer service technician, IT technical sales specialist, IT trainer, network manager or systems analyst.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

Applicants should hold a recognised level 1 qualification in computer maintenance or networking.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the IT Practitioners (ICT Systems Support) course?

Upon successful completion of four units you will be awarded the City & Guilds Diploma for IT Practitioners (ICT Systems Support) at Level 2. You will also have the opportunity to gain vendor accreditation from Cisco or CompTIA alongside this qualification.
