What's the CISCO CCNA Network Fundamentals course about?
The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills to design, build and maintain computer networks. Students will learn how to install, configure and operate LAN, WAN services for small and medium sized networks.
The course is divided into the following sections:
- Install, configure and operate networks in simple WAN environments
- OSI modelling and industry standards
- Network topologies
- IP addressing including subnet masks
- Networking components
- Plan, configure and test routed network
- Static and dynamic routing
- VLSM/CIDR, RIP, EIGRP, OSPF
- Layer 2 switching and configuration
- VLANs
- VTP
- STP
- Inter-VLAN Routing
- Wireless concepts and configuration
- WAN technology
- PPP
- Frame Relay
- Network Security
- ACLs
- IP Services and troubleshooting
Each of the units is completed with online exam. Students must then take a final end of unit online exam and practical assessment.
What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?
The CCNA course forms part of a Cisco qualification framework. Other qualifications include CISCO Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and Cisco Certified Internet Expert (CCIE).

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?
Applicants should have good networking skills in a Windows or UNIX/Linux environment, with experience of using a command-line interface. A CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft MCPs or City & Guilds networking qualification would be an ideal entry qualification.
Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the CISCO CCNA Network Fundamentals course?
Following the course, you will have sufficient skills and knowledge to undertake the CCNA Certication exam.
