What's the 2D Computer Aided Design (CAD) course about?
This course is a vocational award aimed at learners intending to work or already working with CAD. It is designed to develop the skills and knowledge needed to use draughting and design software packages. The Level 2 Certificate in Computer Aided Design is a technical certificate, which emphasises practical learning. It is made up of one unit - The Principles and Practice of 2D Computer Aided Design.
You will cover the following:
- Use associated IT, CAD hardware and operating system
- Use basic file management techniques and maintain health and safety requirements
- Use and identify key components of the software relating to the 2D drawing environment
- Use a range of viewing commands and set up the drawing space
- Use drawing commands to produce shapes
- Use the CAD software's co-ordinate system to aid accurate drawing
- Use hatch, text and simple dimensioning routines
- Use basic editing commands and produce simple hard copies
The assessment includes two practical assignments and a multiple-choice test.
What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?
After successfully completing the course, you may progress on to the CGLI Certificate in Computer Aided Design Level 3.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?
It is assumed that learners will be familiar with elementary drawing terms, conventions as well as simple geometrical constructions and basic concepts of co-ordinate geometry.
Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the 2D Computer Aided Design (CAD) course?
You will be awarded a CGLI 4353 Certificate in Computer Aided Design at Level 2.
