What are the aims of this course?

Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an apprentice's training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off-the-job training within college by day release or over a number of days in a block. PCV Driving apprentices work towards a nationally-recognised competence based qualification and also a knowledge-based qualification. They will also have the opportunity to complete 14 hours of Driver CPC training.

What are the areas covered by this course?

The Apprenticeship covers the following:
- Licence acquisition
- Health and safety
- Maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues
- Providing a professional customer service
- Preparing for passenger carrying journeys (including passengers with additional needs)
- Driving passenger carrying vehicles safely and fuel efficiently
- Dealing effectively with challenging situations and passengers
- Dealing with emergencies and incidents during a bus or coach journey

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

Candidates will need to have a UK drivers licence and be employed in the industry.

How is the course assessed?

The course is assessed by a range of methods including practical assessments, assignments and written tests.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?

At the end of the programme apprentices will have achieved:
- EDI Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Passenger Carrying Vehicle Driving (bus and Coach)
- EDI Level 2 Award in Knowledge for a Professional Bus or Coach Driver
- Driver CPC
- Functional Skills/Key Skills in Application of Number and Communication
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

On completion of the PCV Driving Apprenticeship at level 2 apprentices can go on to complete the PCV Driving Advanced Apprenticeship at level 3.

What are the career opportunities?

You will be qualified to drive a passenger carrying vehicle, such as a bus or coach.
