What are the aims of this course?

Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an apprentice's training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off-the-job training within college by day release. Leisure operations apprentices work towards a nationally-recognised competence based qualification and also a knowledge-based qualification.

What are the areas covered by this course?

The NVQ Certificate covers the following:
- Supporting the work of the team and organisation
- Promoting health, safety and welfare in active leisure and recreation
- Giving customers a positive impression of yourself and your
organisation
- Supporting equality and diversity in active leisure and recreation
- Plus optional units

What are the areas covered by this course?

The NCFE Certificate covers the following:
- Understanding the active leisure and learning sector
- Customer care and diversity in active leisure
- Health, safety, security and welfare in active leisure
- Developing self in active leisure job role
- Cleaning in active leisure
- Handling and maintaining equipment in active leisure
- Teamwork in active leisure
- Emergency first aid skills

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

Competition for places with employers can be fierce, so applicants will need to show that they are committed, happy to work as part of a team and individually, and able to use their own initiative. Applicants will undertake an initial assessment prior to enrolment to ensure the programme is right for them

How is the course assessed?

The course is assessed through portfolio based evidence.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?

At the end of the programme apprentices will have achieved:
- City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Active
Leisure, Learning and Well-Being Operational Services
- NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Leisure Operations
- Key Skills in Application of Number and Communication
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

On completion of the Leisure Operations Apprenticeship at level 2 apprentices can go on to complete the Leisure Operations Advanced Apprenticeship.

What are the career opportunities?

Apprentices who have completed their training can work as a holiday centre worker, leisure centre assistant, outdoor activities leader, or perhaps go on to complete further training in a college or university. On completion of the advanced apprenticeship at level 3 there may be opportunities to progress to supervisory or managerial positions, move into self-employment, or become a trainer.
