What are the aims of this course?
Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Advanced Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an apprentice's training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off-the-job training within college either by day release or over a number of days in a block. Floristry advanced apprentices work towards a nationally-recognised competence based qualification and also a knowledge-based qualification.

The Advanced Apprenticeship covers the following:
- Terms and conditions for the sale of floristry products and services
- Diverse floral designs
- Diverse tied designs
- Diverse floral designs for weddings
- Diverse funeral designs
- Health and safety and security in the workplace
- Managing resources
- Promoting continuous improvement in customer service
What qualifications do I need to do this course?
Applicants should be qualified to level 2 in floristry or have equivalent industry experience. Basic numeracy and literacy skills are also required.
How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed through practical work, theory work and portfolio building. Assessments will include observation of practice and witness testimonies.
Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?
At the end of the programme apprentices will have achieved:
- NPTC Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Floristry
- NPTC Level 3 Award in Business Management for Environment and Land-based Sector
- Functional Skills/Key Skills in Application of Number and Communication
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?
On completion apprentices can progress onto the NPTC/City & Guilds Level 4 Higher Diploma in Floristry.
What are the career opportunities?
The Advanced Apprenticeship can lead to a career as a florist or manager within the retail industry, a freelance floral designer for external venues or occasions, or floristry teaching positions.
