What are the aims of this course?

Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers, from industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes apprentices through the skills required. The training takes place both on the job as well as off the job, with day release at college once a month. Facilities management advanced apprentices work towards a nationally-recognised competence based qualification and also a knowledge-based qualification.

What are the areas covered by this course?

The Apprenticeship covers modules, such as:
- Providing and monitoring facilities for clients
- Developing working relationships with colleagues
- Developing and implementing a risk assessment plan in own area of responsibility
- Monitoring and solving customer service problems
- Maintaining property assets
- Understanding sustainability and environmental issues and the impact on facilities management

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

Applicants should be qualified to level 2 in facilities management or have equivalent industry experience. Basic numeracy and literacy skills are also required.

How is the course assessed?

The course is assessed through practical work, theory work and portfolio building. Assessments include observation of practice and witness testimonies. Key Skills units are assessed via practical assignments, unit end tests and online exams.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?

At the end of the programme apprentices will have achieved:
- City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Facilities Management
- ILM Level 3 Certificate in Facilities Management
- Functional Skills/Key Skills in Application of Number and Communication
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

On completion of the Apprenticeship at level 3, apprentices could progress onto the BIFM accredited suite of professional facilities management qualifications at level 4 upwards.

What are the career opportunities?

The Advanced Apprenticeships can lead to a career as a facilities manager or supervisor within a range of commercial and public sectors establishments.
