What are the aims of this course?
Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Advanced Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. An apprentice's training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off-the-job training within college by day release. Electrotechnical apprentices work towards a work-based qualification in electrical installation.
What are the areas covered by this course?
The course covers the following:
- Health and safety legislation
- Environmental legislation
- Practices and procedures for overseeing and organising the work environment
- Principles of planning and selection for the installation of electrotechnical equipment and systems
- Practices and procedures for the preparation and installation of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment
- Cable termination
- Inspection and testing
- Fault finding
- Electrical principles
What qualifications do I need to do this course?
Applicants should preferably have GCSE passes in maths, English and ICT at grade C or above (or equivalent qualifications).
How is the course assessed?
The Apprenticeship is assessed through online theory exams and assignment work which are taken after the completion of each unit studied, in addition to practical assessments, and work-based evidence compiled as a portfolio.
Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?
At the end of the programme apprentices will have achieved:
- City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment
- Functional Skills/Key Skills in Application of Number, Communication and ICT
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?
On completion of the Electrotechnical Advanced Apprenticeship at level 3 apprentices can go on to complete the City & Guilds 17th Edition Wiring Regulations course or the City & Guilds Environmental Technology qualifications (CG2399).
What are the career opportunities?
Apprentices who have completed their training can carry on working, maybe get promoted or go on to higher education in a college or university.
